War
1. Ukraine’s military destroys 2 ammunition depots, and a command center in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine’s Operational Tactical Group “East” also said it killed 60 Russian troops. (Source: UkrInform).
2. Kyrylenko: Russian forces killed 6 and injured 9 civilians in the Donetsk region. Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said four people were killed in the community of Vesele, one in Adamivka, and one in Khrestysche on June 4. 1. ISW: Ukraine conducts effective counterattacks in Sievierodonetsk. In an update on June 4, the U.S. think tank said Ukraine’s military is managing to stall Russian attempts to encircle their positions in Luhansk Oblast, despite Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s statement that Russia will continue its “special military operation” in Ukraine until Russia achieves its objectives. 1. Zelensky: Russian forces destroyed and damaged 113 churches in Ukraine since the start of the war. The President of Ukraine said that some of the churches “survived World War II, but did not withstand Russian occupation.” Earlier on June 4, Russian forces severely damaged the Sviatohirsk Lavra in Donetsk Oblast where 300 people were sheltering, killing four. 2. Temporary EU import duties suspension for Ukraine comes into force on June 4. On May 24, the EU suspended all import duties for Ukrainian products for one year. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, this move will help strengthen the country’s economy and save Ukrainian businesses “tens of millions of dollars,” as the EU is one of the biggest importers of Ukrainian products. 1. Ukraine’s military: Russia amasses warships in Black Sea. Ukraine’s Operational Command “South” said on June 4 that Russia has stationed four ships and one submarine equipped with 36 cruise missiles and five airborne corps, potentially increasing the risk of missile attacks. (Source: Facebook).
Invasion Damage
1. Russian airstrike hits Donetsk Oblast’s Kramatorsk. Kramatorsk Mayor Oleksandr Honcharenko reported early on June 5 that Russian missiles hit two of the city’s factories. No casualties have been reported yet. (Source: Facebook).
2. One hospitalized following a Russian airstrike assault on Kyiv. Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported that one person was taken to hospital after an airstrike hit infrastructure in the capital early on June 5. 1. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s vyshyvanka sells for $100,000 at a charity auction in Washington, DC. Vyshyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt, was the one he wore for Vyshyvanka Day on May 19.
